The voles/pocket gophers have returned to the garden, and took hold of the beet crop. We got a few, but pretty bummed to lose majority of the harvest, but that’s being part of the ecosystem 🐭

This bold perennial doesn’t just whisper flavour—it shouts it. With a taste that’s like celery and parsley turned up to 11, lovage is here to steal the herb spotlight. Toss the leaves in soups and stews, roast the roots like a veggie boss, or crush the seeds like fennel and spice things up. Basically, if herbs had a spicy European aunt, it’d be this one.

**You can dry or freeze the leaves and stalks to keep that flavour in your soups and stews all winter long!

I am blown away by my first attempt at forcing rhubarb! What is going on here?

Forcing rhubarb with a bucket involves creating a dark and warm environment to encourage early growth. You can use a bucket, pot, or other container to cover the rhubarb crown, blocking out light and promoting stem development. This method results in a sweeter, earlier, and more delicate rhubarb compared to naturally grown rhubarb. I used an old pot and landscape staples, I will definitely be investing in taller buckets as these grow up so fast!
